Neva Parker was honored for her public service leadership in her 26-year career in the California legislature in many non-partisan capacities, including directing the movement of measures through the legislature, and most notably as the Senate Journal Clerk where she was responsible for maintaining the Senate’s official record. Ms. Parker announced that she would be running for the Assembly District 5 challenging Assemblymember Joe Patterson, seeking to represent El Dorado and Placer county areas.
Daniella Zimmerman (she/her) was honored as an educator and active ally and Board member of PFLAG of Greater Placer County and Board president of Placer LGBTQ+ Center. She established the annual Placer Pride celebration in Roseville and worked alongside Pastor Casey to establish The Landing Spot, a support group for Placer County LGBTQ+ teens and their families.
Claire Delany and Anika Ravi are two young Democrats who were recognized for their leadership and representation of the youth voices. They also spoke about the urgency of democracy and the planet. They emphasized the importance of current issues, including human rights, for the future and the importance of listening to youth voices, even as they come to adults as raw versions. Adults, please listen.
Anika attends a Granite Bay High School and serves as a president of Sunrise, the most politically active environmental club at her school. She is the current editor of GenfemZ, a youth-led feminist magazine, and co-heads the middle school speech and debate team as a coach. She is passionate about amplifying youth voices and protecting the environment. Anika aspires to become an environmental lawyer to influence public policy.
Claire first became interested in politics during Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2016. Last year, Claire became involved in local campaigning and started a left-leaning organization at her high school. Claire is an exceptional Advanced Placement student, runs on her school’s Track and Field team as a long-distance runner. She will attend Wellesley College in the fall.
