Trump’s 100 Days, Kiley’s Still Absent, and Constituent Town Hall

A Message from Our Chair

Nick Bennett

May 2025

What a month April was? Lots of rallies and a visit from Bernie and AOC. For months now, thousands of Placer County residents have been calling for an in-person town hall from our elected representatives. Well, since they aren’t going to do it, the Placer County Democratic Party and our community partners will be holding our own town hall on Saturday, May 10th, at Westpark High School in Roseville. We will have a member of Congress and elected officials from throughout the Third Congressional District speaking and taking questions about issues important to all of us and how actions by the Trump administration are impacting the region. Doors will open at 1:30pm and the town hall will start at 2:00pm. Please register here to let us know that you are fired up to attend a real town hall in Placer County.

Trump’s first 100 days have come and gone. Unsurprisingly, he has failed to keep his promises of world peace and to make everyone rich. He has, however, kept his promises of trade wars abroad and cruelty at home. The Trump administration is continuing its push to chip away at the rule of law and remake our national institutions to serve an authoritarian strongman. But we must continue to resist the loss of an America that we can believe in. We must not allow this administration to silence us. We must continue to support and protect each other. We must not allow this Republican Congress and administration to rob us of our empathy, our compassion, our love for our neighbors, and our courage to make the world a better place one small act at a time. There are still many dark days to come, but Placer County Democrats must strive to be the light that others need.

Now is the time to grow our ranks. Bring your friends and family to rallies, protests, and meetings. Who in your social circles would make a caring school board trustee or thoughtful city council member? We will need them to take back our local offices. Do you want to put on big or small events to bring people like you together? There are many ways to engage in activism, and we are here to help. What organizations are you a part of that should be working with Placer County Democrats? We are building our relationships with environmental groups and unions, but must continue to build our network of those who want to protect our rights and values.
